How it works
Counting the days between two dates by hand is fiddly — months have different lengths and leap years get in the way. This calculator does it exactly, from the earlier date to the later one.
It converts both dates to a day count and subtracts them, so the answer is correct across month and year boundaries. Between 1 January and 15 March 2025 there are 73 days, which it can also show as about 10 weeks or just over 2 months.
It is useful for project deadlines, notice periods, holidays, contract durations, or working out how long ago something happened.
Frequently asked questions
Does it include both the start and end date?
It counts the gap between the two dates. If you need to include both endpoints (for example counting billable days), add one to the result.
Does it handle leap years?
Yes. February 29 is counted whenever a leap year falls inside the range, so the day total stays accurate over long spans.
How is the duration displayed?
It can be shown as days, weeks or larger time periods.
