Estimate ideal body weight based on height, using the Devine and Robinson formulas.
There is no single "ideal" weight, but several well-known formulas give a sensible target range based on your height. This calculator applies the classic Devine, Robinson, Miller and Hamwi equations and shows the spread.
The Devine formula, for example, starts from a base weight at 152 cm (about 50 kg for men, 45.5 kg for women) and adds a fixed amount for every centimetre above that. For a man of 180 cm it suggests roughly 75 kg. Because the formulas differ slightly, seeing them together gives a realistic band rather than one exact number.
Treat the result as a guide. It is based on height alone and does not account for muscle, frame size or age, so a fit, muscular person may sit above their "ideal" and still be perfectly healthy.
Each was derived from different data and assumptions, so they disagree by a few kilograms. That is why a range is more honest than a single figure — aim somewhere within the band.
No. These formulas use only height and sex. A muscular athlete or someone with a large frame may healthily weigh more than the estimate, so use it alongside other measures.
Use the result as a reference range, not a medical target.
