Too little paint means an extra trip mid-job; too much means wasted money. This calculator estimates how much you need from the wall area, the paint’s coverage and the number of coats.
It multiplies the surface by the number of coats, then divides by the coverage printed on the tin (often 10–12 m² per litre). For 40 m² of wall, two coats and a coverage of 11 m²/l, that is about 7.3 litres.
Porous or previously unpainted surfaces soak up more, and strong colour changes may need an extra coat, so round up rather than down.
Usually two for an even finish. One can be enough for a small touch-up over a similar colour, while covering a dark wall with a light one may need three.
For a rough estimate you can leave them in as a safety margin. For a tighter figure, subtract large openings from the wall area before calculating.
The number of coats depends on the colour, surface and product coverage.
