How it works

Weather reports, ovens and scientific data all use different temperature scales. This converter moves between Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin and applies the right formula automatically in either direction.

To go from Celsius to Fahrenheit: °F = °C × 9/5 + 32. For Kelvin: K = °C + 273.15. So 20°C is 68°F and 293.15 K; water boils at 100°C, 212°F or 373.15 K.

It is useful for following recipes with foreign oven settings, reading overseas weather, doing homework, or working with lab and engineering figures.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert Celsius to Fahrenheit quickly?

Multiply by 9/5 (1.8) and add 32. A rough mental shortcut is to double the Celsius value and add 30, which is close for everyday temperatures.

Why does Kelvin have no negative values?

Kelvin starts at absolute zero (−273.15°C), the coldest temperature possible, so its scale never goes below zero. It is used mainly in science.

Why do zero points differ?

Each scale has a different zero point and degree size.
