Speed shows up in km/h on European roads, mph on British and American ones, knots at sea and in the air, and m/s in physics. This converter links them all.
The base is metres per second: 1 m/s is 3.6 km/h, and 1 km/h is about 0.621 mph. A knot is one nautical mile per hour, roughly 1.852 km/h. So 100 km/h is about 62 mph or 27.8 m/s.
Use it for driving abroad, sports and running paces, weather and wind speeds, or physics and engineering calculations.
Multiply km/h by 0.621. So a 50 km/h urban limit is about 31 mph, and 120 km/h is about 75 mph.
One knot is one nautical mile per hour, about 1.852 km/h or 1.15 mph. It is used in shipping and aviation because a nautical mile ties neatly to lines of latitude.
km/h is the usual road speed unit.
