How it works

Before a trip it helps to know what the fuel will cost. The calculator works it out from just three things: distance, fuel economy and fuel price.

It multiplies the litres you will need (distance × consumption per 100 km) by the price per litre. For 300 km at 7 L/100km and €1.80, the cost is about €37.80.

It also shows the cost per kilometre, handy for comparing routes or vehicles.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I find my car’s fuel economy?

In the manual or the car’s trip computer. For accuracy, work it out from a real fill-up using the fuel economy calculator.

Does it work for diesel and LPG?

Yes — just enter the correct consumption and the price of the fuel you use.

Why does the real cost differ?

Consumption changes with driving style, traffic, load and air conditioning, so the result is a realistic estimate.

How do I lower the cost of a regular trip?

Keep tyres properly inflated, remove roof boxes and extra weight, and hold a steady speed — motorway cruising at 110 km/h uses noticeably less than at 130. On a daily commute those habits add up to real savings over a year.
