Work out the trip fuel cost in miles, using MPG and price per gallon.
Drivers used to US or UK figures think in miles per gallon rather than litres per 100 km. This version works entirely in those units so you do not have to convert anything.
It divides the distance by your MPG to get the gallons used, then multiplies by the price per gallon. For a 250-mile trip at 35 MPG with fuel at $3.60 a gallon, that is about 7.1 gallons and roughly $25.70.
Remember that US and UK gallons differ (a UK gallon is about 20% larger), so make sure your MPG figure and price use the same gallon.
It works with either, as long as you are consistent. A UK gallon is about 4.55 litres and a US gallon about 3.79 litres, so the MPG rating and the price must refer to the same one.
For US MPG, divide 235.2 by the MPG figure. So 35 US MPG is about 6.7 L/100km. For the metric version of this tool, use the standard fuel cost calculator.
No, the gallons differ. Choose the correct format for your data.
